How To Purchase An Absinthe Fountain
Considerations Before Buying
Fountains are the centerpiece of your Absinthe collection.
Most people buy an absinthe fountain after they’ve used a carafe and a dripper and found them to be inconvenient especially when mixing multiple drinks. It will be the most expensive piece you buy so some thought will be required before making your purchase.
The first step in purchasing an absinthe fountain is deciding whether an all Glass fountain or a Metal & Glass Fountain is right for you. Here are the general characteristics of each:
Metal And Glass Fountains
-Much heavier than All Glass fountains
-Available in different finishes. Gold Plate, Silver Plate and Nickel
-Difficult to transport
-Generally more expensive than all glass models
-Available in 2 and 4 spout styles
-Occasional polishing (the metal) may be required for these fountains

All Glass Fountains
-Lighter and more easily transported than metal fountains
-Generally less expensive than Metal and Glass fountains
-Available in 1, 2, 4 and 6 spout styles
-Very little maintenance required for all glass fountains
It is important to note that all glass fountains are made from either soda-lime or borosilicate glass. Borosilicate is much stronger and lighter than soda-lime. As a matter of fact, fountains made from soda lime glass have a very short life expectancy. If you just need a cheap fountain for 1 or 2 uses, soda lime will be fine. But if you plan on keeping your fountain, you may want to consider borosilicate glass.
